Ashford Independent has 18 candidates successfully nominated in next month’s Borough-wide elections – a mixture of seats we already hold and wards where we are challenging. Most of our current Councillors are standing again, to represent you, the residents, without having to square that duty with a party political agenda.

During the next month, our candidates will be out and about talking to residents, delivering leaflets and identifying the issues that matter to local people. We hope you will feel able to give us your vote, if we’re standing where you live. If you live in one of the wards we haven’t been able to contest this time – why not think about standing yourself in the future?

Many of our candidates have been serving residents on the Council for many years, but others have put themselves forward for the first time,  so as to provide some ‘new blood’ – some fresh thinking and different life and business experience within our group.

The Local Government Association states that good Councillors will:

  • help residents with queries and issues
  • keep in touch with the community to understand local needs and new ideas
  • prepare for formal council meetings by reading reports and considering what to do about plans and issues
  • work collaboratively with voluntary and community organisations, police, health partners, and businesses
  • attend council meetings to represent local people’s views and needs
  • help make decisions and monitoring the work once it begins.

That’s what successful Ashford Independent candidates will be doing after the election – so please vote for us!
