Politics! We don’t like it much either….

We are not career politicians. We don’t care for hobnobbing or grand titles. We stood for election as local people who want to change the way politics works – at least in Ashford Borough Council.

When National Parties run Local Councils, political nonsense occurs; one side voting against the other ….good ideas being blocked just because they came from the wrong side of the Chamber. Political point scoring is pointless. It doesn’t serve our Borough or the people who live in it – which is why National Party politics has no place in local government.

We are happy to welcome all good ideas and to work across party to benefit residents. We want you to be proud of our Borough and to feel that you have a say in how it is run.

As Ashford Independents, we work together but are all individuals. We are united in our belief that the people who live in our Borough should be considered first and foremost in every decision that is made about investment or change.

We put people first. We speak up to say what you think. We listen, we challenge and we hope to inspire. We are your voice.

What we want:

1. The views of the people who live in Ashford and its surrounding villages to be heard in every Council debate, including Planning.
2. Our Council to represent local views and make them clear to Government.
3. Our Council to be inclusive and transparent in all it’s decision-making.
4. Our Borough to grow at a rate that is sustainable for the services and infrastructure used by residents – or for services and infrastructure to be provided that ensures service levels are maintained.
5. All Councillors to be accountable to their electorate and subject to removal if they fail in their duties.
